Listen to the latest episode, “Turning Intergenerational Trauma Into Intergenerational Hope: From A Black Clinical Psychologist, with Dr. Raquel Martin!

Our conversations around generational trauma have evolved to become more nuanced and to shed more light on the Black experience in the United States. But what if, instead of creating intergenerational trauma, there was a way to build intergenerational hope? In this episode of the Found Free podcast, I talk to Dr. Raquel Martin, a licensed clinical psychologist and a social justice advocate, about how to reverse the cycle of oppression that Black people are born into. Dr. Raquel begins by explaining how she started her career as a psychologist and how she links social justice to her patient care. She highlights the two main conditions that she treats in her Black patients and how she combats them in the way she’s raising her own children. You’ll also learn how oppression shows up in our society – particularly in the education system – and how it impacts young Black children. This episode was the first part of my interview with Dr Raquel. If you enjoyed it, make sure to subscribe to the Found Free podcast so you catch the second part where we’ll discuss how to spot internalized oppression in ourselves and in our daily lives.

Expensive payment plans, 24-hour ‘discounts’, sales pages without prices on… how many of these have you seen online? And how many have you bought into? Shady business tactics like these are a hot topic for me and for Bear Hebert, an anti-capitalist small business coach, in the second part of our conversation on the Found Free Podcast.

“Birth is political”. Today’s guest on the Found Free podcast is Flor Cruz, a doula who does so much more than deliver babies. She tells me about how she’s using her platform to fight for equality and for a higher standard of care in reproductive health.

The history of abortion in America is also the story of people of color: a struggle for independence, respect, and self-determination. In this episode of the Found Free podcast, I talk with Renee Bracey Sherman, a Black woman who had an abortion at 19 but didn’t see her own story reflected in the current abortion discussion. She’s on a mission to change that.

Rage, anger, suffering - these are intense emotions that can feel all-consuming and defining. But what if I told you they don't have to own you? In this powerful episode of the Found Free podcast, I continue my conversation with renowned Buddhist teacher, author, and activist Lama Rod Owens. Join us as we unpack the revolutionary path to true liberation.

Tenesha Duncan explains what it means to invest for impact and how we can use money and resources to heal generational trauma and injustice. She unpacks how to make sure that your money is building sustainable systems that honor the work you’ve put into them, rather than going to a political entity that’s using a charitable tax status as a vehicle to continue racial and gender oppression. Along the way, we discuss how we can achieve equality in healthcare and tackle all the traumas that these difficult topics bring up.

I walk you through the common questions that doulas get, from how to work with Medicaid to what I wish I’d have known before becoming a doula. You’ll learn how to tie in your own moral and ethical framework to your birth work and how birth work and sex work align with each other. I also share stories from my career as a doula to give you insight into how to recover from birth trauma and how to build up your support network. And if you’re a new doula, stay tuned to the end to hear how to attract clients who align with your values and appreciate your skills.
